Playing dress up...

I haven't been out for ages. Well, obviously I've been out, I'm not a hermit, but I haven't had a Proper Night Out with my favourite girls for ages. Back in uni we used any excuse to dress up and go out, lectures (which as a history undergrad were so infrequent they were practically treated as a special occasion) birthdays, essay hand-ins, er, Thursdays....

But now we are Grown Up and have Proper Jobs we tend to be spending our weekends having very nice but very civilised couples dinners, or seeing the latest new baby on the circuit. And drinks after work are in upmarket Kensington wine bars, not Mahikis. But I'm determined to change that this year, if for nothing else than because I really love a good Little Dress (doesn't necessarily have to be black). I have a great version that I bought for my birthday drinks a couple of years ago, and has been gathering dust in my wardrobe ever since. And then I saw on Net-a-Porter this little beauty (pictured) by Alice by Temperley. Rouched and understated from the front, backless and sexy behind. I'm already teaming it with my new nude patent courts (couldn't help myself, had just finished in the gym and it was a delirious, post-exercise shoe binge) and a statement necklace.

Not only are the dress choices immense, but going out with your best girls is a parade of fabulous fashion moments that should always be caught on film...even the ill-advised 'let's try and be models or Madonna 'Vogue' poses.
