Swish!

So it's with a light and bouncing heart that I tell you that Reader, I have fallen in love.

The object of my affection is the above Lyocell skirt from Jigsaw - their latest collection really is fantastic: luxe, super-sumptuous and uber-flattering.

But after years of watching the trends, pondering the meaning of fashion and shopping like there's no tomorrow, I am somewhat jaded as to what actually suits me, which trends I will be completely ignoring and which I am being snide and derisive about.

The first time maxi skirts came around was smack in the middle of 'boho' - when Sienna Miller decided that gladiator sandals were the only thing to be picnicking in, and therefore so did we. Well, not me, you can't prize a heel off me if you try, but you get the idea. The skirts were hippish wispy things, usually teemed with a peasant blouse, long pendant and floppy hat. This was precisely the same time I discovered I liked my curves and was pouring them into various corsetry, stockings and 1950s looks (Mad Men came too late for me) so boho and its associated elements completely passed me by.

So a super-long maxi (for that is what it is no doubt) was certainly not what I was looking for on my shopping trip last Friday. I was actually looking at a silk top in Jigsaw, and then moved onto a couple of dresses, before stumbling across the skirt and letting out a little gasp. But even then, I decided it probably wouldn't suit me (as you well know by now, I'm vertically challenged). As I took it into the changing room with a chain belt to accessorise with, I was already mentally putting it in my 'nearly but not quite' clothes pile. But once on, I was transformed....

Teamed with a sky-high heel or wedge, this skirt is the most amazing piece of engineering. Smooth enough to flatter the hips (no bulk or heavy waist band) and two layers of super light fabric falling in rough edges to the heel of the highest heel for someone at my height. The best bit (which you admittedly don't get from the picture) is the SWISH created when you walk. It's like having a wind machine. On a catwalk. With a dramatic soundtrack. I. Love. It. It flatters, goes with anything and will carry me from the current freezing conditions (paired with tights and boots) into the spring (wedges and bare legs)

So there you have it - a surprising love story for my cynical WW mind. Altogether now, ahhhh.
