Hair food.

You've got to give credit to any product that can tame my hair. My hair's natural state is a thick, curly mass of matter - the sort that struggled to be contained in a bun during childhood ballet lessons, and frizzes up to eclipsing proportions in any kind of humidity.

After teenage years of straightening it into oblivion, I have become more comfortable with the natural wildness of my mane, but that doesn't mean a completely natural state can be adopted. If I just 'wash 'n' go' as the adverts say, my hair would attract looks from commuters, probably because it would block out their view of their newspapers.

Over the years I have tried nearly every hair product aimed at curly/frizzy/thick hair, from those on offer in Boots to eye-wateringly expensive potions, which mostly have the same effect as the cheaper versions. I've tried scientific experiments, organic, anti-oxidant, anti-ion, plant-infused - the lot. And one range comes stealthily out on top as the most reliable (and nice smelling) of the bunch. Aveda.

Now Aveda is based on the organic plant-infused bent of product, but that's not its main selling point for me. The fact is - it does what it says on the tin. I chose a deep intensive reconstructing conditioner for a particularly bad month of blow-dries and it felt as if I had moisturised every hair follicle. And although not the most innovative of the whole range, the Smooth Infusions collection is my go-to for regular washes, it's not heavy, smells fresh and keeps my mane in somewhat controllable territory. That's all I look for in a significant shampooing other.
