Linen and lace.

Whistles is my go-to shop for luxury high street pieces that could pass for something much more expensive. Their design team are spot on with creating things that have good shape, well-cut fabrics and plenty of great trans-seasonal basics. Even the 'fashion' bits are considered and take the best bits of a trend, rather than slavishly copy a la lower-end brands.

For SS11 they really have hit design gold, but that could just be because everything in store at the moment is things I would wear, want to wear and can't wait to wear. The lace Siri Dress is a pretty, girlie, sexy sheath, and the midnight blue lace overlay skirt (pictured) would work office to evening, work smart to wedding smart.

I have been looking for a easy, effortless spring jacket for ages, and notice that many of the affordable brands have missed the mark and either cut or fabric, and I don't dare venture into the realms of Stella McCartney et al as I know I will want something and my bank balance doesn't stretch that far at the moment (or ever). But Whistles has hit upon a winner once again, with the Lia Linen Jacket (pictured, £175). The fabric is soft and lightweight, cut to flatter the waist and skim the hips, and the front drape keeps it casual and subtle. I tried it on earlier today, and instantly felt Grown Up and Put Together. I want it for power meetings at work, I want it for girlie shopping trips, I want it for dinner dates, I want it for, well, I just want it.
