Regular readers will know about my love-affair with the Twenties and Thirties. Particularly American glamour and the Great Gatsby atmosphere (enjoyed only by those who could afford it, admittedly.) I had a 1920s-themed 21st birthday party a few years back, and would love to have it influence my wedding (if I ever get up the aisle one day.) So I was having a bit of an 'oooh' moment when I heard about a new 1920s night on the Orient Express. I have always wanted to travel on the luxury train, it seems so much more civilised, old school and elegant than the regular associations with trains such as the daily commute or standing next to someone with awful body odour/breath. My parents have travelled to Venice on the OE, and my mother who is usually a transport/hotel snob of the highest order thoroughly enjoyed it - the dressing up, the good food, the Agatha Christie step back in time...although thankfully with no murder.
The 1920s Orient Express trip is in October this year, hailed as an evening of 'old fashioned glamour'. A four-course dinner with Champagne will be served and elegant flapper gear is very much encouraged. I am super tempted to round up my fashionable girls and don a beaded dress for the occasion.
